Vultures – All World Species

This part of the website works as a kind of field guide to the vultures of the world based on my bird watching trips throughout the globe since 1975. They are reported on in pictures and text, being founded on my experience from having watched the 23 species of vultures and photographed them all except one. The decrease of many vulture populations since the 1970’s has been dramatic, which I have seen with my own eyes during the journeys. Today, the possibly to watch flocks of these magnificent birds soaring high up in the sky are much less today than when I started to travel. I therefore also report on the red list status of all vulture species. 16 of them are now endangered and red-listed according to IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). 7 species are critically endangered (CR), 2 endangered (EN), 2 vulnerable (VU), and 3 near threatened (NT). Only 7 species are not endangered and classified as least concern (LC), and therefore not red-listed. I first present and discuss the new-world vultures from Turkey Vulture up to Andean Condor. The old-world vultures are divided into two groups: first Palmnut Vulture up to White-rumped Vulture and then White-backed Vulture up to Lappet-faced Vulture.
